New milestone in sustainable transport with the LCZ e-trucks

Sustainable transport is becoming increasingly important. That is why we are expanding our fleet with two electric trucks (e-trucks). This investment is not a pilot project, but a deliberate choice: a choice for a future where logistics is organised smarter, greener and more sustainably.

Electric as the logical step forward

Transport is an essential link in the economy, but at the same time one of the largest sources of CO₂ emissions. That is exactly why we are now taking an important step: by performing our first- and last-mile journeys electrically, we can reduce these emissions to zero.

This choice fits perfectly into our broader strategy: combining inland waterway transport with zero-emission pre- and post-haulage. In this way, we create a sustainable alternative to traditional modes of transport – one that benefits both our customers and the climate.

Delivering concrete zero-emission kilometres

The new vehicles will mainly operate between our terminal, warehouse and our customers for deliveries and collections in the surrounding region. These are exactly the short routes where electric transport can make the biggest difference today and have a direct impact on air quality and CO₂ emissions.

The demand for such solutions is growing rapidly. More and more customers are seeking, driven by European ESG regulations and their own sustainability ambitions, concrete alternatives to road transport with traditional diesel engines. With this expansion, we are responding to that demand and strengthening our offer, alongside our existing fleet that already runs on HVO fuel as an alternative to diesel.

The future of electric freight transport

Electric freight transport offers many opportunities, and we are convinced that this is the way forward. However, there are still challenges that need to be addressed in the coming years:

  • Costs: the purchase price is currently two to three times higher than that of a diesel truck.
  • Payload capacity: Due to the additional weight of the batteries, the load on the tractor’s drive axle increases. As a result, less loading is possible at the front of the trailer; regulations will still need to evolve to eliminate this disadvantage compared to the diesel version.
  • Energy prices: stable electricity prices are lacking; investing in locally generated green energy and storage is becoming crucial.
  • Charging infrastructure: on-the-road charging remains a disadvantage; for now, on-site charging is the only viable option.

Within our business model, focused on regional transport, this is not a limitation. That is why we see electric trucks as a powerful building block for the future of sustainable logistics.

Our vision: sustainable transport as a core mission

With these first two electric trucks, we are investing not only in our company, but also in the liveability of our region, the expectations of our customers and the future of the sector.

Sustainable transport is not an add-on, but a core mission. And today we are once again taking a clear step in that direction.
